Want a free webpage to showcase your portfolio? After a brief intro to the GitHub ecosystem, we'll work together to get you set up with a GitHub account and make a storage location (a repository) for your personal webpage. We'll learn some ways to link data, figures, and website links using the Markdown, which is a way to format text into headers and paragraphs.

Speakers
Professor Naiman is a teaching assistant professor at the iSchool, UIUC and a Visiting Scholar at NCSA where she teaches & researches methods for efficient and engaging data visualization in technological fields. Before her current appointment she completed the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Theory and Computation Postdoctoral fellowships at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Her Ph.D. is in Astronomy & Astrophysics from University of California, Santa Cruz and is active in outreach and educational activities, particularly in the mentoring of students and development of open-source visualization tools.
Professor Turk is an assistant professor in the School of Information Sciences and also holds an appointment with the Department of Astronomy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research is focused on how individuals interact with data and how that data is processed and understood. He received his doctoral degree in physics from Stanford University in 2009. He completed postdoctoral work at the University of California at San Diego and an NSF Fellowship in Transformative Computational Science at Columbia University. He came to Illinois in 2014 to work as a research scientist at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and as a research assistant professor in the Department of Astronomy.

TechReady Illinois provides access to discounted courses for unemployed and underemployed Illinois residents looking to upskill or pivot into a career in technology. It is a growing program created through a partnership between two Chicago nonprofits, P33 and Discovery Partners Institute. This webinar is one in a series of webinars offered by TechReady Illinois on Wednesdays at 12pm CDT. Topics range from learning about TechReady and its educational and nonprofit partners to important career skills like networking and agility to topics in technology.
