LA CERCA

Psychedelic four-piece La Cerca from Tucson, Arizona emerged in the 1990s - originally under the name Wise Folk Malcontent - and changed its moniker after more than a decade of refining its sound. Helmed by Andrew Gardner, the frontman since day one and one of two remaining founding members alongside guitarist Bill Oberdick, La Cerca haven’t lost a shred of momentum as the band has continued to strengthen its reputation both in and out of the studio over a storied string of releases.

Building on influences from Sonic Youth and The Cure to Bob Dylan and Ride, La Cerca additionally incorporates a desert-infused blend of shoegaze, ambient, twangy pop hooks, and signature dueling guitars. WIth a unique sonic identity, La Cerca has established itself as pioneers of a new breed of psychedelic guitar rock with a diverse and growing global fanbase.

The band has a host of achievements under its belt, including signing with Fort Lowell Records and Xemu Records, getting tapped to play renowned showcases at industry events like SXSW, and sharing the stage with legendary names such as Snow Patrol and Radar Brothers.

With 20 songs in the works — being recorded at Waterworks by the band’s collaborator of over two decades, Jim Waters of Sonic Youth fame — and a spring tour, La Cerca is preparing for their biggest year yet.

DAN JONES & THE SQUIDS

Dan Jones, Steve Tulipana, and Matt Ronan play garage'y indie rock and roll songs inspired by The Minutemen, Husker Du, Guided By Voices, Alex Chilton, Meat Puppets, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, and Lou Reed. Also corn dogs, misplaced remote controls, bungled time management, Royals baseball, and excessive caffeine consumption. Jones has been leading lineups of The Squids for more than twenty years, first in the Pacific Northwest and for the last 8 years in KCMO.

When Jones first made the burgeoning Pacific Northwest Americana scene, The Oregonian declared “any given verse of his songs packs more wit than a roomful of singer-songwriters could muster in a month of open mics.” The Eugene Weekly later called him the “bed-headed poet laureate of Eugene…[finding] beauty in the ordinary while coaxing poetry from things most writers leave in the garage.” The Big Takeover has compared recent Squids to Devo, Drive-By Truckers, and legendary art-punkers Urinals/100 Flowers.

Since relocating to KCMO in 2013, Jones and the Squids have released We Live In A World That Is Out of This World (2019) and Serve Without Delay, a live pandemic album of new tunes, recorded live at recordBAR and released in 2021. Jones shares digital art and writing daily at www.danjonesmusic.com and all of his album projects are available at danjones1.bandcamp.com .
