Overview

Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.

An all-levels generative virtual workshop with poet Max Gregg!

A glass clown figurine. A cancelled celebrity, once a childhood crush. The upright piano someone left in the strip of grass beside the freeway interchange, its shiny paint peeling off in the rain. What's the thing that refuses to leave you alone? Let's write an ode to it. Together, we'll explore out our ambivalent attachments through ceremonial poems of praise. As we build altars to the gods we no longer worship, we will invoke a selection of odes by Pindar, Eileen G'Sell, K. Iver, and Kevin Young to guide and inspire us. Poets of all persuasion and experience levels are welcome.

About the Instructor: Max Gregg holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Virginia. Their work appears in Sonora Review, Exposition Review, Poetry Daily, and elsewhere. They live in Baltimore, where they teach creative writing at Carver Center for the Arts.

**This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
