Join us for an illuminating and necessary conversation exploring what it means to be intersex.

Overview:

Join us for an illuminating and necessary conversation exploring what it means to be intersex—through both scientific understanding and lived experience. This event is part of our ongoing commitment to raising awareness of lesser-understood identities and ensuring all voices within the LGBTQIA+ community are heard and represented.

Why This Event Matters:

The “I” in LGBTQIA+ is often overlooked or misunderstood. This session centres the voices and experiences of intersex people, challenging assumptions and providing clarity about what it means to be intersex, including how intersex identities differ from transgender identities. Attendees will come away with a deeper understanding of the biological and social realities faced by intersex individuals and why visibility, inclusion, and advocacy are vital at work and in life.

Keynote Speaker: Rachael Evans (update with input from Rachael)
Rachael Evans is a speaker, educator, and advocate who brings decades of lived experience as an intersex person to her work. With honesty and insight, she will share her personal story—highlighting the complexities of intersex identity, the medical and social challenges faced by intersex people, and how her experiences have shaped her advocacy.

Rachael will also explore:

  • The biological and medical science behind being intersex
  • How intersex differs from transgender and non-binary identities
  • The impact of invisibility, misinformation, and stigma
  • Why intersex voices are essential to any conversation about gender and equality

Objectives:

  • Increase awareness and understanding of the intersex identity
  • Clarify common misconceptions (especially the confusion between intersex and trans identities)
  • Encourage inclusive practices in workplaces, healthcare and in life

Who Should Attend:
