Event description

Description

Four environmental defenders are -- on average -- killed every week. While Indigenous People bear the brunt of these attacks, and women face particular threats, environment and land defenders in all parts of the world are increasingly threatened by violence. Such violence is part of an intensifying global crackdown on civil society, threatening social entrepreneurs, activists and all who protect environmental and human rights.

Hearing directly from defenders about the challenges and risks they face, we will examine root causes of the violence, including state and corporate responsibility. Join us to discuss how to advance collective and scalable security and resilience. With environmental and land rights activists and allies, we will explore the continuum of approaches to security, from individual strategies to collective, movement-based approaches, and share new collaborative funding models.
