About the Event
Diserio Consulting invites middle and high school youth, and their parents, to an engaging, age-appropriate workshop designed to empower families with the knowledge and confidence to recognize, prevent, and respond to unsafe or abusive behaviors.
Every year, an estimated 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys experience sexual abuse before the age of 18 (CDC, 2023). Even more concerning, over 90% of children who are sexually abused know their abuser, often someone they and their families trust. These numbers highlight why prevention education is not optional; it’s essential.
Incidents that happen at schools and in our communities are painful reminders that grooming, boundary violations, and abuse can occur anywhere: in schools, on sports teams, in youth programs, or online. The goal of this workshop is to give families the tools to recognize subtle warning signs early, maintain open communication, and respond decisively when something doesn’t feel right.
During this session, youth and parents will:
- Understand what grooming is and how to prevent child sexual abuse
- Recognize red flags and common tactics used by abusers
- Learn how to set and respect healthy boundaries with adults and peers
- Practice real-life scenarios and discuss what to do if something feels uncomfortable or unsafe
Learn from Ashleigh Diserio and her team, who have been working on child abuse and exploitation cases for over 18+ years. Together, we can build a community where every child feels safe, heard, and protected.
The Warrenton Church of Christ is generously providing the meeting space. Please note that while this event is being held at a house of worship, it is not a religious program, and all families are welcome.
👥 Who Should Attend
- This session is designed for middle and high school youth and their parents. However, families with older elementary children are welcome to attend, with parental discretion and understanding that this workshop will include mature themes and terminology related to personal safety and grooming awareness.
- Parents, guardians, teachers, and other community members who want to learn how to support and protect youth.
- DISCLAIMER: This program includes sensitive but essential topics, such as sexual abuse, grooming, and boundary violations. While these conversations can be uncomfortable, they are a vital part of prevention and education. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where youth and parents can learn together, ask questions, and gain practical tools to protect themselves and others. All content is presented in an age-appropriate and respectful way, balancing honesty with care and sensitivity.
