The National Academies’ Federal Facilities Council (FFC) invites you to join us for a webinar on Wednesday, August 19, from 2:00-3:00 pm EDT on protecting building engineering and maintenance staff from COVID-19. While many people are working remotely, the staff who keep facilities functioning must generally be on-site to do their jobs - telework is not an option. Further, many of these people must work in confined spaces and often with other people present for safety reasons. Invited speakers Dr. Corey Boles and Dr. David Krause will discuss keeping these workers safe and will take questions.

Speaker Bios

Dr. Corey Boles is a Senior Health Scientist with Cardno ChemRisk. Corey is an industrial hygienist with expertise in aerosol science and microbial exposures. He has a Ph.D. in Occupational and Environmental Health from The University of Iowa College of Public Health. Dr. Boles’ has conducted microbial exposure and risk assessments for occupational, consumer, and environmental exposures (e.g., norovirus, influenza A, swine influenza, bacteria, fungi, allergens, endotoxins). He has provided COVID-19 support for clients across several industries located in both the United States and abroad. This support includes guidance for risk management techniques, cleaning and disinfection protocols, consumer product handling guidance, risk assessments for public facing clients, communication framework development, case management plans, COVID-19 awareness training, and workplace continuity plans. Dr. Boles is an active member of AIHA, including the Biosafety and Environmental Microbiology Committee. In addition, he has been assisting with AIHAs COVID-19 Task Force with drafting of Back to Work Safely guidance for specific sectors.

Dr. David Krause is the founder of Healthcare Consulting and Contracting (HC3). He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Toxicologist, with more than 25 years of experience in public health, occupational hazard assessments, and indoor air quality. He received his Doctorate in Environmental and Occupational Health and Master of Science in Public Health Toxicology program from the University of South Florida. David is a nationally recognized expert in risk assessment, workplace exposures to pathogens and hazardous chemicals, health care facilities, Legionnaires' disease, combustion products, flame retardants, irritant chemical exposures, indoor air quality, and mold. From 2008 to 2011 Dr. Krause served as the State Toxicologist for the Florida Department of Health. He co-authored the 2009 Guidelines for the Surveillance, Investigation, and Control of Legionnaires' Disease in Florida and the 2015 AIHA Guideline for the Recognition, Evaluation, and Control of Legionella in Building Water Systems. David is a member of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists' Bioaerosols Committee and just ended his tenure as chair of the AIHA Indoor Environmental Quality Committee. Dr. Krause currently leads the Industrial Hygiene Association's efforts on COVID-19 in the workplace, cleaning and disinfecting non-healthcare workplaces, and risks associated with Legionnaires' Disease.
