About this event
- Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes
We are excited to host this collaborative event between Project Chrysalis and meTamorphosis! At this free community event, you will be invited to write to an trans person incarcerated in a PA state facility. Organizers with Project Chrysalis x meTamorphosis have asked friends inside to respond to writing prompt: "if you were an object, creature, or thing, what would you be?" Outside friends can read their responses, and write a letter answering an ice breaker question that inside friends created! The event will also include a moderated coversation between Project Chrysalis x meTamorphosis discussing lived experiences of developing friendships with incarcerated people through letter writing! All drinks from the cafe will be $2 off during this event.
Let’s Get Free: The Women and Trans Prisoner Defense Committee is a group working to end Death by Incarceration (also known as life without parole sentencing), build a pathway out of the prisons back to our communities through commutation reform, support successful possibilities for people formerly and currently incarcerated, and shift to a culture of transformative justice. We prioritize working with women and trans prisoners, whose experiences are often left out in conversations about mass incarceration; we work to build relationships and community across prison walls; we are guided by people in prison; we use art as an organizing tool; we educate to shift cultural understandings around harm, healing, and justice. We are motivated by an ethos of reducing harm and violence, and we are committed to bringing people home. Let’s Get Free!
meTamorphosis is a local queer & trans led event series committed to uplifting emerging LGBTQ+ writers by curating inclusive community readings in Pittsburgh, PA. meTamorphosis celebrates queer & trans people's commitment to ongoing transformation and embracing change to become who they know themselves to be.
