How to Use the Craft and Elements of Fiction to Create Engaging Nonfiction

Deborah Heiligman will show you the tricks of the trade: how to use scene, plot, dialogue, character development, and more to create narrative, suspenseful, page-turning nonfiction--without making anything up.

Deborah Heiligmanis the author of 31 books. Her most recent, VINCENT AND THEO: THE VAN GOGH BROTHERS , won the SCBWI Golden Kite Award for nonfiction, the YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Award, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for nonfiction, and a Printz Honor. Her other nonfiction books include: CHARLES AND EMMA: THE DARWIN’S LEAP OF FAITH, a YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Award winner, Printz Honor book and a National Book Award finalist; THE BOY WHO LOVED MATH: THE IMPROBABLE LIFE OF PAUL ERDOS, which won the Cook Prize, the Annie Izard Storytelling Award and an Obis Pictus Honor; FROM CATERPILLAR TO BUTTERFLY, and the National Geographic Holidays Around the World series. Deborah lives in New York City with her husband, a writer and journalism professor, and Ketzie the dog, who is not a writer. Their grown sons, who are writers, drop by frequently, especially when there will be food.
