In a procession between three Society Hill sacred spaces, performances by Philadelphia-based artists highlight both the broad narrative history of these sites and their present-day status in a rapidly changing city.

Three processions starting at 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM, will encompass performances by each of the participating artists. The processions will make their way through St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church, and Mother Bethel AME Church.

GROUNDS THAT SHOUT

Curated by award-winning choreographer Reggie Wilson, Grounds That Shout! (and others merely shaking), is a series of performances exploring relationships and connections between religion, movement, race, and the body with a focus on the African American religious experience within the specific context of Philadelphia’s historic sacred spaces.

This project is presented in partnership between Partners for Sacred Places, Philadelphia Contemporary, and Danspace Project (NYC).
