It’s hard to let ourselves remember the week that Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and its painful aftermath, which many of us are still dealing with. But it’s also important to remember what happened. It’s important to share our stories about Harvey because in doing so, we help to heal ourselves and our city. The more we speak up about the tragedy and tell the truth about the difficulties we faced, the more likely it is that current leaders and future generations will hear us, listen, and make changes to minimize the damage done, if such a storm ever occurs again. If you experienced losses during Harvey, or if you know someone who did, come join your fellow Houstonians in a writing workshop designed to help us process the painful memories, support healing, and potentially create art--or at least authentic remembrance--from the disaster that occurred. Guided writing prompts will be available, but following them won’t be required. Both writers and non-writers are welcome.

This workshop is offered through support from the Houston Flood Museum, a project funded by the Houston Endowment. All writers who produce writing during this workshop will be invited to submit their work to the Houston Flood Museum.
