Description

Join the Future of Privacy Forum for an invitation-only roundtable titled “Privacy in the Smart City: Finding the Middle Ground. Major advancements in technology, economic and political changes, as well as societal shifts have generated keen interest in developing intelligent cities. But how do we secure social benefits while protecting individual privacy and autonomy?

Join thought leaders from the City of Seattle, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as experts from industry and academia, for a discussion of responsible data practices in a hyperconnected world.

This roundtable will explore:

  • how new technologies and data uses can be implemented while respecting civil liberties;
  • how to best communicate about new technologies and data flows in smart cities;
  • the importance of building critical stakeholder relationships;
  • how to properly balance privacy and security with transparency and Open Data commitments;
  • the most effective way to determine when individual notices or choices are appropriate (and when they are not);
  • how to identify best practices for individual notice and choice, vendor management, data classification, de-identification;
  • and more.

There is no cost to attend this event, but registration is required as seating is limited. If you have questions, please contact Kelsey Finch at kfinch@fpf.org.
