The duties and power of citizenship have seldom been more in the news. Renowned author Eric Liu will explore "Citizen Power" in a talk at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester on Friday, April 21 at 6 p.m.

Presented by Constitutionally Speaking in partnership with the New Hampshire Institute for Civics Education, Mr. Liu will present the William W. Treat Lecture.

Far too many Americans are illiterate in power -- what it is, how it operates, why some individuals have more than others. As a result, those few who do understand power wield it disproportionately. How can you learn to activate your civic power, to see problems through fresh eyes, and bypass broken institutions, stale ideologies, and divisive politics? In this powerful talk about power and civic purpose, Eric Liu expounds the values, knowledge and skills of effective citizenship, and rejuvenates the meaning of being an active American.

Eric Liu is the founder and CEO of Citizen University and executive director of the Aspen Institute Citizenship and American Identity Program. He is the author of several books, including You're More Powerful Than You Think: A Citizen's Guide to Making Change Happen, A Chinaman's Chance, The Gardens of Democracy, and The Accidental Asian. Mr. Liu served as a White House speechwriter and policy adviser for President Bill Clinton. He is a regular columnist for CNN.com and a correspondent for TheAtlantic.com.

Doors open for this public event at 5:30. The Currier's galleries will be open for viewing. Mr. Liu's talk will take place from 6 to 7:30. Following his remarks, Mr. Liu will sign copies of his book, You're More Powerful Than You Think: A Citizen's Guide to Making Change Happen.
