About the Book:

Combat Love is Alisyn Camerota's story of longing for stability and attachment as the foundation of her family crumbled. Set on the Jersey Shore in the free-range 1980s, Camerota is thirteen when she finds the belonging she craves courtesy of a local punk rock band named Shrapnel and their diehard fans. Combat Love chronicles Camerota’s near-misses and misadventures at gritty clubs like CBGB, coupled with the sex, drugs and punk rock of that era. By the time Camerota leaves home at sixteen, it feels like home had left her long ago. Combat Love is also the story of two women, mother and daughter, entangled then pulled apart, each searching for identity and wholeness. With her signature wit and hard-won wisdom, Camerota captures the raw emotions and high stakes of our teenage years, walking the line between shelter and risk, nurture and neglect, trauma and healing. Camerota retraces her steps down a precarious path toward her big dream of becoming a TV reporter. Compelling, heart-wrenching, funny, and pulse-pounding, Combat Love is an anthem of hope and resilience for anyone who’s ever searched for that elusive place called home.

About the Author:

Alisyn Camerota is a journalist, author, anchor and correspondent for CNN.
