About this event

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) provides educators with research-based strategies to help all students succeed. Literacy is the foundation of learning—but traditional approaches often leave students behind. These three courses introduce educators and instructional leaders to the UDL framework as a powerful tool for reducing barriers in literacy instruction.

Course Structure

We are offering three mini courses on transforming literacy through UDL. These courses combine live interaction and flexible learning. You'll engage with approximately 2-3 hours of self-paced materials and have the option of attending a live debrief session at the end of the course. The course can be completed in about two weeks.

  1. Designing for Engagement: By focusing on engagement, you'll explore how to create learning environments that foster motivation, support persistence, and promote meaningful connections to content.
  2. Designing for Representation: Representation is a core principle of UDL. In this course, educators and instructional leaders will learn how to design literacy environments that honor the diverse ways students process and make meaning from content. You’ll explore strategies to support access to complex texts, develop background knowledge, and provide multiple formats for understanding new concepts.
  3. Designing for Action & Expression: Educators and instructional leaders will apply their learning by redesigning a literacy activity or lesson using the UDL framework. You’ll explore how to support learners in expressing their understanding in ways that align with their strengths, preferences, and goals—whether through writing, speaking, visuals, or other modalities.

Who should enroll?

This course is designed for educators and instructional leaders ready to apply UDL principles to real classroom practice and support all students in expressing their literacy knowledge and skills. Whether you are an experienced educator seeking to refine your teaching approach or someone exploring new methods to reach all learners, this course provides the practical tools and insights you need.
