Preference Assessment Skills
Overview
Have you ever wondered why your reward system doesn’t seem to be working? One reason may be that it is no longer motivating to the individual. Direct preference assessment is a powerful way for staff to include student voice in behavioral interventions and increase reinforcer effectiveness. In this workshop you will learn five types of preference assessments, including how to identify items, conduct the assessment, and analyze the results. Case examples will demonstrate how to use results to enhance behavior plans. Multiple tools will be provided to participants.
This course will be offered across three 1-hour sessions on 1/14/2026, 1/21/2026, 1/28/2026 from 5-6 pm.
At the end of this section, you will be able to:
- Describe the differences between indirect, naturalistic, and direct preference assessments
- Conduct direct preference assessments
- Graph, interpret and use preference assessments results to help develop reinforcement plans
