By Code Blue OSCE Crew
Overview
Join us for our 8th session of the pre-clinical teaching series! We will be refreshing pulses, BP and CPR with sphygs and dummies!
Students will be expected to know the correct procedures for measuring pulse rate and blood pressure:
- Measure pulse rate by palpation, estimate systolic blood pressure by palpation, fit a sphygmomanometer and measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure using a sphygmomanometer and auscultation.
- Students should understand the difference between systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure (pulse pressure).
- Students should be able to identify and palpate the following pulse sites: Radial, Brachial, Carotid, Temporal, Dorsalis pedis, Posterior tibial and Facial
- For each site they should note the pulse rate, rhythm, character and volume.
- Students should be able to name, identify and explain the Korotkoff sounds.
CPR:
- Demonstrate the correct DRSABC (Danger, Response, Shout for help, Airway, Breathing, Circulation) approach.
- Perform an initial assessment of an unresponsive patient and initiate CPR.
- Demonstrate correct chest compression rescue breath technique.
- Revise indications to stop CPR
