Power | Culture: Fields of Vision, Fields of Practice

Friday, March 31, 2023, 10:00 AM EST - 12:00 PM EST

Global social and political movements illustrate the complex relationship between power and culture. These forces can both reify and oppose each other, and the interaction between power and culture holds concrete ramifications for the experiences of people worldwide. This conference probes contemporary implications of the power-culture dynamic by exploring notions of mobilization, dissent, and justice in workshops on Disability Justice in the Corporate Sector, the Symbology of Dissent, and Language and Arts in Politics.

10:00 a.m.: Keynote Address: Professor Vishakha Desai, “Power of Culture/Culture of Power: Symbols and Stories”

10:15 a.m.: Q&A with Professor Desai

10:30 a.m.: Design Session

11:00 a.m.: Workshop session: Mobilizing Language and Arts in Politics: Theater of the Oppressed
