Power Breakfast #3
A changing of the guard is underway in Central Iowa. Some in the business community may have detected the recent retirements of long-time leaders and the variety of other departures, new hires and newly created roles across the region. Leadership transition is nothing new, but when the top leaders of key organizations in the business community change, it spells a new environment for individual companies and the community as a whole. A Business Record review of our coverage of key leadership changes found that we have recorded 552 leadership changes in the last five years. In a period marked by increased retirements among Baby Boomers and other workforce changes following the COVID-19 pandemic, our Power Breakfast event will dive deeper into what large-scale leadership transition means for Central Iowa’s workforce and leadership dynamic, regional collaboration and community cohesion.
During the discussion, we will explore:
- The broader causes of this shift in leadership and what it means for future of the local workforce
- The effects on broader leadership dynamics, including community involvement, philanthropy and regional collaboration
- What leadership style and priorities will define the next generation of leaders
- How an executive leadership transition changes the operation of an individual organization
- How organizations can prepare for the effects of leadership transitions in and outside of their companies.
Panelists:
- Rowena Crosbie, president – Tero International Inc.
- Dr. Adreain Henry, president – Mercy College of Health Sciences
- Kristi Knous, president – Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines
- Steve Lacy, chairman and CEO (retired) – Meredith Corp. (now People Inc.)
- April Schmaltz, president and CEO – Delta Dental of Iowa
