Poverty Simulation

Poverty Simulation

By Bridges Alliance of Johnson County

Overview

During live-action event participants role-play lives of families, taking on the identity of one living in a low income situation.

During this live-action simulation participants role-play lives of low income families, taking on the identity of someone living in a low income situation. They will work together with their family to live a month in poverty. The simulated "community" is a large room. Participants' "homes" are chairs in the center. Needed services like banks, schools and grocery stores are tables that line the perimeter of the room. These simulations have motivated and inspired many participants to take action in ending poverty within our community.

The event takes place in the Napolitan Student Center, which is building #8 on the map. Folks can park for free in lot P12, and if they type “Hamilton Lot—Franklin College” into GPS, their device should take them to the right place.

The Poverty Simulation will begin promptly at 6pm; please arrive at least 10 minutes early to check in. There will be a community meal available at 5:30 but you must RSVP "Yes" for the meal by January 7th.

Event cosponsored by Bridges Alliance of Johnson County, Franklin College, Circles Indianapolis, and BRICKS Alliance, Inc. Simulation is appropriate for 12 years and up.
