About this event
- Event lasts 3 hours
Join us for the Portuguese premiere of Ceibo, which follows surfers Pacha Light and Lucy Small as they journey across Ecuador to learn how we can better coexist with our planet.
What is the cost of our consumption? It’s replacing the precious marine life in our oceans with plastic, poisoning our rivers and destroying communities as our demand for new technology escalates and our dependence on fossil fuels continues. What can we learn from women in Ecuador, who are deeply connected to their landscapes and communities and where these impacts are felt first?
From the land rights struggles of the Andes and the Amazon, to an Olympic surfer who has carved out a path for women, to the fight to protect the waters of the Galapagos Islands, Ceibo explores some of the most important struggles of our time. Along the way, Pacha untangles her own evolving identity as she reconnects with her Ecuadorian roots and embraces what it means to be Ecuadorian.
10% of all earnings from the film will be donated to our impact partners who are doing critical work in the regions of Ecuador where the film is made. Watch the trailer below.
Launch of Action to Stop Deep-Sea Mining: Take to the water for a moratorium
After the film, Natalie from ReGeneration Surf will share information about a growing global issue, potentially causing irreversible harm to the ocean and climate. Deep-sea mining, if approved, would destroy fragile ecosystems, threaten carbon sequestration and storage, and push unique species toward extinction before we’ve even discovered them.
She will introduce the #defendthedeep campaign with an invitation to take to the water for a moratorium.
On July 20 people around the world will rise and gather in defense of one of Earth’s last untouched frontiers: the deep sea. As governments convene for the crucial International Seabed Authority (ISA) meeting in Kingston, Jamaica (July 7 – 25), to decide if deep-sea mining will be permitted in international waters, a powerful global wave of ocean lovers will take to the water in a united call: Stop deep-sea mining before it starts.
Momentum is building, awareness is rising, and resistance is growing. Around the world, communities are standing up to an industry that threatens our ocean, our climate, and our future.
Now is the time to come together and defend the deep.
Join us for an evening of ocean activism through the lens of surfing on 19 July 2025, and together lets rise to protect our shared ocean.
