Learn about the origins of clay and its sacred role in Mesoamerican culture as you shape your own toltec inspired sahumador.
These workshops offer comprehensive theory, easy interactions with clay along with ergonomic tools and safe materials for participants with a variety of levels of knowledge about ceramics and its uses.
With this class participants accomplish a beautiful hand made functional and decorative ceramic creation acquiring the foundational skills of ceramics and the therapeutic benefits of clay.

About Featured Artist
Alejandra Hernandez, Cemiquiztli Ceramics
Alejandra is a multimedia artist who explores both ceramics and music. She has shown her ceramic works in art galleries throughout Los Angeles and Orange County such as Xiem Studio Art Gallery, The Folk Tree Gallery and Hollywood Forever Art Show as well as for nonprofit organizations. Alejandra was also the first ceramicist to teach a workshop at the Museum of Latin American Art of Long Beach where she also exhibited.
Alejandra’s ceramic techniques are applied over functional, ceremonial pottery and sculpture. Her clay art is primarily inspired by the roots of her Mexican heritage. Alejandra has a genuine passion for contributing to the magnificence of Mexican pre-Columbian art and folklore music from the Americas.

Colectivo Cihuateotl aims to support community members in reconnecting with their sacredness and reclaiming their sovereignty through cultura, arts, education, and wellness.
