Policy Hivemind Hack Day
Overview
Reimagining internal organisational policies based on anti-oppressive, care-based, collective principles ain’t easy! We know most org policies you will find out there will reproduce a bunch of the wider garbage that our groups and organisations are trying to challenge and create alternatives to, so we know we need different starting points.
The RadHR policy library offers a ton of good examples that we can build on, across a wide range of policy areas, but we know that policies need to be more than just the words in a doc. We need spaces to figure out the hard questions together.
An initial email from Granville Community Kitchen, and some follow-up conversations between them and Cooperation Town, have sparked an experiment:
- A day in London (Thursday 22 January),
- A group of folks from smaller community groups, arts orgs, workers co-ops and radical non-profits coming together around Pay and Conflict to dream up all the things we’d like to see in each of those policies,
- A chance to have our dream policies looked at by a lawyer and an accountant,
- A collective opportunity to think about how we do and don’t want the law and financial norms to shape our policies, and
- Lovely fresh food.
Does this sound appealing? Then sign up now!
We’re specifically focusing this on folks from smaller groups - those with no more than 20 paid workers, but imagining that the vast majority of participants will be from groups with far fewer. We have some budget to help with travel costs for any of us coming in from out of London, so if you're looking for support with trains or accommodation, we'll do our best to help out.
We’ll be capping tickets at 40 people, so ask that no more than 2 people per group book onto the event, to ensure a wide range of groups can take part.
Organised with Granville Community Kitchen and Cooperation Town.
