Playing with Life Drawing and Dance

Playing with Life Drawing and Dance

By Sasha Yonna Illustration

Overview

A relaxed, playful life-drawing session where you are invited to find the joy in drawing, and experiment through creative prompts.

Life-drawing is a well-known space to practice drawing anatomy and honing observation skills. This class is more of a playground - a place to experiment with materials and techniques, and take inspiration from the human form in new directions. Open to beginners and long-time drawers, Sasha will offer technique tips and creative prompts.

This session, there will be some Salsa-inspired repeating and flowing movement. But don't fear - most will be stationary, and for the movement Sasha will give tips to encourage you to capture the flow and feeling, rather than exact representations.

Throughout the session you are welcome to take the suggestions or stay in a personal flow. Some charcoal, pastels, and markers will be provided, along with newsprint paper. If you would like to use heavier paper, please bring.

Led by Sasha Yonna (@sasha.yonna.illustration on Instagram - where there is a little more information about the session).

Sasha is an artist and illustrator, who draws inspiration from dance, fashion, and performance. She uses life-drawing and dance as a jumping-off point for experimentation in printmaking and digital art, with the aim of portraying movement, self-expression, and queer joy. She is playful and open-minded, letting the materials guide her, and always trying to care less about perfection.
