About this Game Night

“We’re preparing [students} for these jobs of tomorrow, but we really don’t even know what they are. It’s almost like we’re doing this with blinders on. ... We’re doing all we can to give them the finite skills, the computer languages, the programming, but technology is expanding so rapidly, we almost can’t keep up.” -- Amy McLeod (Students are Being Prepared for Jobs That No Longer Exist)

Can a board game prepare students for the future of work?

College students only - JOIN US for the next installment of this thought-provoking event that we first hosted earlier this year, and find out. This will be a fun, enlightening and self-reflective evening connecting with other students while playing the new, innovative board game IMPACT -- a Foresight Game that teaches you to think critically and imaginatively about emerging technologies and the future of society. Afterwards, we'll discuss the results of how you and your team have decided the future will unfold!

Designed by futurists, IMPACT invites players to take on jobs of the future and navigate change in order to achieve their character’s preferred future state. The game is meant to help players to (1) Learn the basics of futures thinking including some of the key terminology, (2) Learn about the latest advances in science and technology (neurotech, nanotech, artificial intelligence, IoT, biotech, robotics), and (3) Practice thinking about how these emerging technologies could evolve and the various ways they could influence society.

Our goal with the game is to train people to think more deeply about what could unfold in the future, including opportunities to discuss how emerging technologies will fit into our culture and how we will use them. The fact that players take on roles that may or may not align with their values helps them see things from different perspectives. The skill involved in taking multiple cards and undertaking a brief cross-impact analysis to create a relevant headline is not easy. We’ve found it to be especially challenging for those with engineering and business school backgrounds. Playing IMPACT requires you to think more like a novelist: Who are the characters? What’s it like to live here? What period is this?” -- Robert Bolton (Fast Company)

We'll be breaking up into teams with each team playing and reporting who their winner is and what they learned about the future of work. How will you and your teammates respond to future technological disruption? How can you begin to contemplate the future in a way that will provide answers, not just questions? Come out, play, and become a futurist for one night.

TECH 2025

The year 2025, it turns out, is the year many experts predict may be a tipping point that ushers in a new era of innovation for our world. Within approximately 10 years, the most disruptive emerging technologies of our modern era, now in their infancy, will be "ready for prime time" and will change society, and how we define ourselves, in unimaginable ways. Are we ready for this seismic shift that will happen in the blink of an eye? Are we aware of (and prepared for) the challenges and opportunities that are ahead?

Tech 2025 is a platform and community for learning about, and discussing, the most consequential emerging technologies that will impact our world in the next 10 years including AI, Machine Learning, VR/AR/MR, Driverless Vehicles, Robot Automation, 3D Printing, Space Tech, Drones, Internet of Things, Blockchain, and Sustainable Technologies (phew!). In addition to teaching the general public about these technologies that are evolving quicker than we can fully understand them, we facilitate discussions on practical problems, legislation, and the broader societal implications of these technologies.
