Pinellas FNPS Presents: Diversifying Shoreline Conservation

By Pinellas Chapter FNPS

Overview

Learn about a new documentary filmed in Tampa Bay meant to inspire every day citizens to get more involved in local environmental projects

Dr. Hillary Van Dyke is a visiting professor at the University of Tampa... and a filmmaker. She recently completed a 10-minute mini-documentary about shoreline conservation in the Tampa Bay area. The film documents a shoreline restoration project at Philippe Park in Tampa Bay that centers the voices and experiences of Black and Brown community members, highlighting how environmental work can become more inclusive and representative. We'll watch the film together and then discuss it, led by Dr. Van Dyke and Pinellas FNPS chapter board member Deborah Rothenberger, who has recent first-hand experience in the logistics and challenges of creating a living shoreline.
