By Hartford International University

Overview

Learn with us as Dr. Bulliet explores the search for religious knowledge in Islam and Christianity.

HIU is thrilled to welcome Dr. Richard Bulliet, Professor Emeritus, Columbia University, as a speaker in our biennial Bijlefeld Lecture Series.

The Bijlefeld lectureship was established in 1989 in honor of Dr. Willem A. Bijlefeld, an eminent scholar of world Christianity, especially in its interactions with Islam and other global interfaith communities. He served for 25 years on the faculty of Hartford International University (then Hartford Seminary), where he held the posts of Academic Dean, Distinguished Senior Professor, Founding Director of the Duncan Black Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, and editor of The Muslim World journal. He also served as a consultant to churches, government agencies, schools and corporations in more than 14 countries.

The lecture series brings in a world renowned scholar and/or religious leader who is committed to interfaith understanding, especially Christian-Muslim dialogue.

Dr. Bulliet specializes in Middle Eastern history, the social and institutional history of Islamic countries, and the history of technology. He is the author of 11 books of non-fiction and four books of fiction.

This free lecture will be face to face and livestreamed to the HIU Facebook page.
