Pickens County 4-H Recycled Engineering Challenge 25/26
Overview
In the Recycled Engineering Challenge, youth will design and build anything functional using only recycled or repurposed materials. Popular builds include bridges, towers, toys, bird feeders, art machines, organizers, and more.
Participants will sketch their design, gather materials, build their invention, test it, improve it, and present the finished product at the Spring 4-H Showcase.
Cost:
FREE for enrolled 4-H members
$5 for non-members
Timeline:
Dec 1–10: Brainstorm & sketch design
Dec–Jan: Build & test
Feb 15: Project due
Spring Showcase: Engineering judging & displays
Youth Will:
Create a design plan
Build using recycled materials
Test & improve their invention
Present their final project with explanation
What to Bring:
Final project
Sketch or design notes
Photos of the building process (optional but encouraged)
Who Can Participate:
Open to youth ages 5–18. No special tools required.

Refund statement: Full payment is due upon registration. No refunds will be issued within three weeks of the start of the event.
Membership requirement: Current 4-H membership is not required for participation in this event, but you must preregister.
Custodial Care: Please note that this event and its coordinators do not assume custodial care of youth in attendance. Adults (parents, guardians, volunteers, coaches, or chaperones) must be present for the supervision of youth participants.
