Overview

Youth set training goals for their dog, track weekly progress, and present their results at our Spring 4-H Showcase!

In this hands-on canine project, youth will choose 2–3 training goals—such as basic obedience, new tricks, agility foundations, or manners—and track their progress from December through March. Participants will document their journey with photos, videos, and weekly notes.

This project helps youth build responsibility, patience, and communication with their dogs. All participants will be invited to demonstrate their progress at our Spring 4-H Showcase.

Cost:

  • FREE for enrolled 4-H members
  • $5 for non-members

Timeline:

  • Dec 1–7: Set training goals
  • Dec–March: Weekly training & documentation
  • March 1: Final submission
  • March Dog Club Meeting: Live demonstrations
  • Spring Showcase: Judging & awards

Youth Will:

  • Choose measurable training goals
  • Track progress weekly
  • Submit photos/videos
  • Create a final slideshow or presentation

What to Bring:

  • Dog Record Book
  • Photos/videos
  • Dog (for in-person demonstration dates only)

Who Can Participate:

Open to all youth ages 5–18. Must have access to a dog for training.

Refund statement: Full payment is due upon registration. No refunds will be issued within three weeks of the start of the event.

Membership requirement: Current 4-H membership is not required for participation in this event, but you must preregister.

Custodial Care: Please note that this event and its coordinators do not assume custodial care of youth in attendance. Adults (parents, guardians, volunteers, coaches, or chaperones) must be present for the supervision of youth participants.
