Physical Abilities Test (PAT) / Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB)
Overview
The PAT/WSTB exam is free to register but space is limited. We still have openings!
Please go to: https://www.join.alamedasheriff.gov/regional-training-center/pelletb-and-pat-wstb-registration for registration and up-to-date space availability.
The PAT/WSTB, along with the PELLETB exam, are both required assessments for entry- level peace officer applicants. The PAT/WSTB establishes a minimum level of fitness for the following job classifications:
Deputy Sheriff's Recruit
Deputy Sheriff I (POST Graduate)
Deputy Sheriff II (Lateral) and SAN
Though this test does not require any special law enforcement training to complete, candidates should be in good physical condition and free from injury prior to participating. It is recommended that candidates do some running, jogging, calisthenics, or other physical activity to build up stamina, muscle tone, and coordination in preparation of taking the exam.
This is a pass/fail test comprised of five components that are staged in four separate stations as follows:
Solid Fence Climb and Chain Link Fence
Body Drag
99 Yard Obstacle Course
500 Yard Run
Each component is timed and times are then converted into a point score. Overall combined scores are then used to determine eligibility for moving on to the process's next step, the Oral Board Interview. Candidates will be notified of their results at the conclusion of their test on the same day.
All participants should wear athletic clothing and shoes.
Please plan to arrive early. Check-in is at 0730 hours (7:30am), and the test begins promptly at 0800 hours (8:00am). Bring your government-issued ID for verification.
Recruiters from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office will be present to answer questions and speak to attendees.
