Description

About the Series:

This series of free classes is presented by the International Center of Photography. Classes meet and end at the Art Cart, but students will be able to roam throughout the park to capture images. Students should arrive on time for full instruction. For full list of classes, see bryantpark.org.

Students should bring their own camera, lenses, tripod or smartphone.

Students unable to RSVP will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Classes are rain or shine, but may be cancelled if weather conditions become unsafe.

About the Class:

From Beaux Arts to glass towers, the architecture around Bryant Park reflects a rich procession from early NYC Deco skyscrapers to crystalline prisms such as the Bank of America tower. Working with New York-based architecture and landscape photographer Jade Doskow, students will learn about the history of the buildings around the park and then move onto a series of exercises in shooting architecture, making pictures both abstract and formal, focusing on the light upon the cityscape and the intertwining of the landscaping of the park with the structures around it.

About the Instructor:

Jade Doskow (b. 1978, American) architectural and landscape photographer is known for her rigorously composed and eerily poetic images that examine the intersection of people, nature, and time. Based in New York, she holds a BA from New York University and an MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. She is represented by Front Room Gallery in New York, NY and Tracey Norman Morgan Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina. Selected press includes Newsweek Japan, U.K. Independent, Smithsonian, Slate, UNCUBE Berlin, The Atlantic, American Photo, Design Arts Daily, New York Observer, NPR Picture Show, ArchDaily, and Wired. She is on the photography faculty of the School of Visual Arts and International Center of Photography. Doskow is currently working with the award-winning filmmaker Philip Shane on a documentary about her World's Fair project, due for completion in late 2017. Her monograph, Lost Utopias, was released by Black Dog London in November 2016, and was listed by American Photo as one of the top photo books of 2016. She has upcoming solo exhibitions in New York and Asheville.
