From carbon credits to co-benefits: The systemic approach applied to carbon farming on mineral soil.

Carbon credits and other financing mechanisms are often complex and difficult to apply to the diversity of farms and agricultural systems in Europe. Carbon, before being a financial product, is one of the main drivers of soil fertility and provides farm ecosystems with a number of co-benefits. The presentation will attempt to provide answers to the following questions:

- Why and how should carbon be stored in mineral soils?

- What are the co-benefits of implementing carbon farming on the farm?

Organized by

Green Restoration Ireland Cooperative (GRI) was established in 2019. GRI has been developing innovative approaches to pay farmers for restoring damaged peatlands and other farm habitats. This includes Ireland’s first on-farm paludiculture (wetland agriculture) trials and a wide range of other carbon farming measures and nature-based solutions.
