Thursdays, Oct 25-Dec 6 (no class Thanksgiving week)

6:30-8:30 p.m.

$325

Instructor: Kim Bretton

(no prerequisites)

Class Description:

Our aim is to launch a production of the play MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING in a shortened and modular form with multiple actors playing each role. Firstly, we will have great fun dispelling any fear of Shakespeare’s text and we’ll work together to find out what it all means! Next, we will discuss character, style, rhyme, wordplay, story and most importantly - discover the truth in the text.

When this course is over you will be friends with the Bard!

About Kim Bretton

Kim was born and raised in the UK and trained at the prestigious Mountview Academy (Judi Dench, president). She studied classical theatre for three years under the tutorship of Nikolas Simmonds (National Theatre, Bristol Old Vic), and Thelma Holt (National Theater, Peter Hall Company) and has worked with Sir John Mills and Royal Shakespeare founder Clifford Williams. Her first professional job after leaving drama school was playing Edgar in King Lear with the Orange Tree Theatre in London. She has since played Juliet in Romeo and Juliet at the Judi Dench Theatre in London, Helena in All’s Well That Ends Well in London (directed by Clifford Williams) as well as other classical non-Shakespearean roles. She has adapted and directed Much ado About Nothing, A Midsummer’s Night Dream and The Tempest professionally and looks forward to adapting and directing Taming Of The Shrew for Nashville Shakes this autumn. As an actress, Kim has extensive experience on London’s West End as well as National Tours and is now a regular staple on the Nashville stage. As a director Kim has worked for Actors Bridge and Studio Tenn on productions such as Time Stands Still, My Fair Lady, Spamalot, Gaslight and as a writer/collaborator/performer on The Frozen Moment.
