Training Description
This presentation will guide you through the transition process, designed to support individuals with autism as they move from high school to adulthood. Emphasizing the development of self-determination, self-advocacy, and independence, this session aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to facilitate successful transitions. Key focus areas will include essential skills for independent living, community safety, post-secondary education, and employment. Additionally, participants will gain insight into available resources and support systems for students with autism throughout their school years, as well as strategies to prepare them for life beyond high school.
Training Objectives
1) Explain the core skills of transition for individuals with disabilities and their families.
2) Describe strategies to support students in identifying their areas of need in the transition to adulthood.
3) Apply concepts from the BRIDGE Transition Toolkit to empower students of transition-age.
About the Presenter
Lauren Veit holds a Master of Education in dual areas of Rehabilitation Counseling and Mental Health from Hofstra University. She is a nationally certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She graduated from SUNY at Old Westbury with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
