JOIN US FOR....

A series of informal "Listening Sessions" with peers, advocates, and others is being offerend through the Office of Consumer Affairs to have a discussion around peer support.

We, as an administration, value your input and look forward to your expertise in strengthening the peer recovery movement.

What is a Listening Session?

A Listening Session is one of the best ways to get a conversation going with a group of people in a room, listening to ideas and discussing them.

Goal


To help bring to scale statewide peer support by dissecting its elements, sharing best practices, and exploring opportunities for expansion.

Guiding Questions

  • What ideas should of could be used to expand peer support services within the state?
  • What are the barriers to statewide peer support expansion?
  • What are the barriers within your organization?
  • What are the benefits of using peer support services?
  • What are the limitations of using peer support services?
  • Do you feel there are appropriate training requirements for peer support? If not, why and what suggestions would you make?
  • What supervision requirements should there be for proper support within the peer workforce?
  • What are the pros of cross training peers in mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders? Whar are the cons of cross training peers in mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders?
  • How is your salary impacting your quality of life? How is your salary impacting your benefits? Are you offered benefits? Does your salary compensate you enough to acquire benefits? Are you employed part time and want to continue part time because of benefits (ie: Medicaid, Medicare, SSI/SSDI)?
  • Where are you employed? What is your role as a peer recovery support in your place of employment? Can you give some examples of your work being done within peer support?
  • How do you feel about the value of peer support? Do you feel valued at your place of employment, why or why not?
  • How do you feel about the recovery time requirements of the peer recovery support? Are the recovery time requirements the same for a peer recovery support as they are for a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist? Are you required to pursue certification? If so, do you feel the certification requirement is necessary to gain employment, why or why not?
  • Do you feel that recovery plans are needed to peers in the workforce (ie: WRAP, IRP, etc)? Would it be helpful for your supervisor to know what recovery and relapse/crisis means to you? Would you like your supervisor to know how to support you in your recovery process?
