On a mythical Caribbean island, circa 1890, Mediyah is a high priestess of "science and healing," of prodigious magical power. All that was imparted to her by the omnipresent ghost of her grandmother, the Great Granny Root. After Mediyah falls in love with Jason, she surrenders her sorcery and enslaves herself to merely mortal desire. Unable to heed Granny's command, Mediyah loses control to Jason. She is doomed, until hate overtakes her, as all-consumingly as love once did, and she"brings down rage and destruction."

JPETE Theatre Company presents "PECONG" which refers to a carnival contest of insults in verse, with Jason and Cedric, Mediyah's twin brother, as the combatants here, vying for the title of Calypso King.
