Eighty years ago on this day, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki became the first targets of nuclear weapons. On this night, we commemorate the souls lost that day and pray for a world free of the threat posed by nuclear weapons. The night will feature speech and song and prayer, as well as paper cranes and Japanese lanterns floating across the lake. The night will feature ritual and ceremonial bells and drums, speakers, prayers from a range of religious perspectives, and music. A Peace Choir, assembled from singers from choirs, churches and community across the area, will sing music of Jim Scott, Fred Small, Peter Mayer and others. We will be joined by singer/composer Jim Scott, and violinist JaganNath Khalsa. More information about the music, and opportunities to rehearse and join together in song to come.
