Pause and Effect: Inclusive and Regenerative Design Learning Session

Imagine a world where the products, services and technologies we use, transform systems of inequity and enhance the wellbeing of future generations.

Pause and Effect is an inclusive design and imagination company. We're excited to offer this FREE interactive learning session on our Inclusive and Regenerative framework, to product makers and designers, innovation strategists, Diversity and Inclusion professionals and anyone else who may be curious about designing responsible and resilient user experiences.

In this learning session, participants will:

• Learn the components of Pause and Effect's Inclusive and Regenerative Design framework
• Learn the differences and intersections of designing for access, belonging and justice
• Reflect and participate (as comfortable) in a constructive review of products and services that are currently in market, through an Inclusive and Regenerative lens
• Learn a 5 step process for designing thoughtful and responsible products

We plan to facilitate this learning session via Zoom Video Conferencing. There will be automated closed captioning and transcription available. Camera and audio participation is optional for those attending. This session will be recorded.

Presenter Bios:

Sabrina Meherally (she/her) is the daughter of refugee and immigrant parents, who resides as a 2nd generation settler on the stolen lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓ y̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ x̱ wú7mesh (Squamish) andSəl̓l̓ í lwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. She founded Pause and Effect to challenge how we approach innovation, and who and what we prioritize in design. In her former corporate life, Sabrina was a UX Designer, Product Manager, and HR Business Partner. Her experience working in the system, offers a unique perspective and understanding of how equity and inclusion can intersect the tangible aspects of a business in order to actualize intended outcomes. As a recovering perfectionist, she believes that systemic change requires our ability to notice and release colonial conditioning that does not serve us, tap in to different ways of knowing, and visualize futures that prioritize the wellbeing of people and planet. She is a wanna-be dog mom and hobby experimenter, energized by science fiction, travel adventures, and a good cup of coffee.

Clementina Consens (they/them) is an artist, researcher, and environmental scientist that is driven to imagine and implement radical visions. They were born and raised in Tkaranto (Toronto) on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, andWendat peoples to Uruguayan parents. Their holistic views on research and the natural world translate into a unique understanding of design. They have a degree in Environmental Geoscience and a minor in Geographic Information Systems, which brings a geospatial perspective to their understanding of data. Clementina is passionate about cultivating an environmentally conscious and community-minded design ethos. They are a proper cowboy bruja (witch) and are as passionate about good food and new moon ceremonies as they are about thriving global ecosystems.
