CRIN Creative is stoked to invite award-winning filmmaker, Richard Rutkowski, to Cinema 21 for an exclusive screening of his incisive new documentary, Pauline from 2 to 3. The film recently premiered at Heartland International Film Festival and is continuing its festival tour. Rutkowski recently worked as Director of Photography on Criminal, filmed entirely in Portland in 2024. We're excited to have him back in town to share this personal and uplifting story of family, centenarian strength, and refreshing decency in our times. Join the filmmaker at this onetime private screening event, just for Portland's film family to experience together and kick off the year's holiday season.

SYNOPSIS:

A centenarian Super Ager with extraordinary physical andmental health, Pauline spends her 102nd and 103rd ears oncamera in this new documentary by Richard Rutkowski, ASC.Born to Polish parents and raised on a depression-era farmwith eleven siblings, she has lived her entire life in Rust BeltPennsylvania. Through decades of hard work, early businesssuccess, and hardships while raising a sprawling fivegeneration family; Pauline embodies an often overlooked partof America's "Greatest Generation." its women. At a momentparticularly apt, Pauline offers an example of character andquality of life in advanced that the digital agefundamentally ignores.

Director Q&A

Richard Rutkowski

Richard is an active cinematographer based in New York City. In 2024 Richard was one of the DP’s on Amazon Studios’ first season of CRIMINAL, based on the graphic novels of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Richard’s work on the first seasons of FX's Cold War spy drama THE AMERICANS drew widespread critical acclaim. His camera work on the streaming drama MANHATTAN earned two ASC Award Nominations. Recent projects include Apple's TV's SUGAR, garnering both an Emmy Nomination and the ASC Award this past year for Outstanding Cinematography. His work also includes MASTERS OF THE AIR, Apple TV's epic story of B-17 pilots in WWll and the third installment in the Band of Brothers franchise, produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. An earlier documentary Rutkowski directed, THE SPACE IN BACK OF YOU, chronicled the creative relationship between Japanese dancer Suzushi Hanayagi and theater maestro Robert Wilson. Richard is one of Pauline’s 15 Grandchildren.
