Ever wonder why some products feel familiar while others stress us out?
Amber Case, an internationally recognized designer, author, and speaker—and founder of the Calm Tech Institute—partners with IDEO to lead a workshop on designing technology that respects human attention. Together with IDEO designers, participants will explore how to build experiences that align with how our brains work, rather than interrupt them.
This workshop explores how to create technology that works with human attention instead of fighting it. We’ll tackle real scenarios from smart home devices to AI interfaces and why current approaches to building them fall short. Through interactive exercises and practical examples, we’ll explore ways to design experiences that engage the mind in a way that allows human experience to be in the foreground, and technology to “pass through”. We’ll cover the Principles of Calm Technology® and how to incorporate them into the development process so you can design products that people actually want to keep using.
You’ll walk away with tools to:
- Reduce cognitive load in product design
- Shift from command-and-control models to ambient awareness
- Create interfaces that inform without overwhelming
- Understand what the mind needs and how to build systems that work alongside, not against, human rhythms
Whether you're working on consumer products, enterprise tools, or emerging technologies, this workshop offers grounded tools for designing products people actually want to keep using.
This workshop is online via zoom. After RSVP, a link will be shared with you. This workshop is recorded.
