The Virginia Tech Roanoke Center and Roanoke Higher Education Center have collaborated to offer a 3-week prep course for the Praxis Middle School Mathematics exam.

The Praxis Middle School Math (5164) exam is specifically designed for those seeking certification to teach math in the United States. It assesses the knowledge and skills necessary for teaching math effectively.

This non-credit course will run on Mondays and Tuesdays from February 9 to 24, 2026, and will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 715 of the Roanoke Higher Education Center.

The course cost of $460 covers six classes of in-person instruction with an experienced public school math specialist and Virginia Tech faculty, materials, practice exams, and the exam fee itself ($130 value) for those who attend all classes.

Experienced instructors will guide you step by step with test-aligned exam practice questions, real-life scenarios, and supportive in-person instruction. Enjoy learning alongside others who share your interest in working with students!


About your instructor:

Maggie Hill holds a B.A. from Radford University and an M.S. in Education from Longwood University. She is a licensed Virginia educator who has successfully passed both the Math and English Praxis exams. With extensive experience in test-taking strategies, Praxis exam preparation, and mathematics instruction, Ms. Hill offers a unique and practical perspective as the lead instructor of this course. Her commitment to supporting future educators is reflected in her ability to blend content mastery with effective teaching techniques.
