What to Expect at a Plein Air Painting Event

Plein air painting events offer artists of all levels the chance to paint outdoors in natural light, surrounded by inspiring scenery. Whether it’s a structured workshop or a casual paint-out, these events provide a creative and refreshing way to engage with your surroundings.

Typical Event Flow:

• Arrival & Setup: Artists arrive at the location, find a spot to set up, and prepare their materials.

• Welcome & Overview: The host or instructor gives a brief introduction to the event, shares tips, and explains the focus for the session.

• Demo or Guided Instruction (Optional): Some events include a short demonstration or instructional segment to get everyone started.

• Independent Painting Time: Participants work on their pieces at their own pace, with the option to ask questions or receive feedback.

• Wrap-Up & Group Share: The event often ends with a short group reflection or informal critique, giving artists a chance to see each other’s work.

These events are great for building skills, meeting other creatives, and simply enjoying the process of painting in the open air. All you need is a willingness to create—everything else unfolds from there.
