Paper Ornament & Altered Book Workshop with Turning the Page on Helene
Overview
This holiday season, Turning the Page on Helene is hosting a Giving Tree at Zuma Coffee. Come learn to make beautiful, 3 dimensional paper ornaments from recycled books. Make one to take home, and one (or more!) to gift to another community member by hanging it on the tree!
No art experience is needed- just a willingness to get crafty. All supplies are provided free of charge.
Turning the Page on Helene is a community-based art project that is using the transformative power of altered books to tell our communities’ stories of Hurricane Helene through the visual arts. The goal is to create a safe space for community members to share experiences of the hurricane and recovery efforts, as well as their hopes for rebuilding a better and brighter future. Participants help co-create community books by making pages that capture their experiences since the storm. Making paper ornaments was originally envisioned to support community members who lost all of their holiday decorations in the storm.
