Event description

Description

Pace University Press will present Comics and Culture: Those Who Can, Teach, a panel and discussion on October 3, 2018, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event will be held in the Bianco Room at the Pace University downtown NYC campus. The panel will offer a stimulating conversation about the comics industry, its influence on literature and popular culture, and how this applies to academic studies. The theme will highlight the intersection of comics and education, the language of comics, and the use of comics in the classroom. The discussion is an extension our journal, Comics and Culture.

The panel will feature guest contributors and speakers, including cartoonist Mark Newgarden (Cartoon Network), editor Joan Hilty (Nickelodeon, DC Comics), comics artist Klaus Janson (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns), and writer and illustrator Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, X-Men). Paul Levitz, former president and publisher of DC Comics, will moderate the discussion.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged: [insert link]. Refreshments will be served. This special panel is sponsored by Pace University Press, Pace University Masters in Publishing Program, and TBA.

The Journal of Comics and Culture (ed. Carol Tilley) studies the comic and graphic novel in conjunction with its impact in and response to popular culture. This journal analyzes and illustrates the growing talents in the field of comics, as well as comics’ origins, impacts, and reflections on American culture as a whole.
