Ever had a question about auctions you've always wanted to ask but never had the chance? Join Photographic Arts Council Los Angeles and specialist Alex Fierro of LA Modern Auctions for an evening of photographs and an entertaining and informative class in art auctions 101.

This private preview experience will feature a guided walkthrough of the works being auctioned, with background information on the donors and the artists. In addition, Alex will offer an insider's guide to how art auctions work -- what drives the value that you see in the bidding range? Do you need to be an experienced collector to participate? Is an auction a good place to buy photographs? Any and all questions welcome. And who knows? You may discover a treasure for your collection tonight!

This preview is leading up to a live auction taking place at 10 AM on December 11th, and a number of the works offered are being sold with proceeds to benefit PAC LA.

ABOUT THE AUCTION:

On December 11th, Photographs offers a remarkable selection of works charting the medium’s evolution, from groundbreaking early practitioners to contemporary artists at the cutting edge of experimental practices. Within this sale is a special selection of works which benefit Photographic Arts Council Los Angeles.

Featured highlights include Nobuyoshi Araki's Yakuza 1998 from Tokyo Comedy, Alex Prager's Emily, and Gertrude Käsebier's 1905 portrait of Auguste Rodin, along with works from Nan Goldin, William Eggleston, Lucas Samaras, Robert Frank, Gabriel Orozco, Jack Pierson, Mitch Epstein, John Divola, Cindy Sherman, and many more.
