About this event

Holiday • Halloween

Join us as we explore the mysteries of owl behavior under the cover of night!

This outing is appropriate for people new to birding or with limited experience, although all birders are welcome. We will be listening and watching for owls (and coyotes!). Learn how to be a responsible owler, when the best time to hear and possibly see these enigmatic birds, and what owls call Minnesota home.

We will be standing for long periods to listen for owls. Dress for the weather. Bring headlamp or flashlight. Please, no flash photography as this can interfere with both owls and humans as our eyes adjust to the darkness. Please leave your dog at home, owls are not fans of dogs.

Individuals under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

We will meet outside, in front of the MN Valley Refuge visitor center.

Accessibility description: The parking lot is paved. There are several steps down to Long Meadow Lake trail where we will go to look for owls. The trail itself is wide but can be uneven, packed dirt and sandy in some areas.

There are no benches on the trail. There are no bathrooms.

Please contact Stephanie Roettger (jonesykitten@gmail.com) with questions.
