FEED YOUR FACE - WHILE WE FEED YOUR BRAIN!
The Bell is excited to offer a series of lunches and lectures to senior citizens, 55 and over. Once a month a lively lecture will be given by a local speaker (on a wide range of topics) to be followed by a light lunch, a sandwich, drink, and cookies. We’ve set the price for this at an affordable $7.00, so that as many people can take advantage of this entertaining opportunity- ‘To Lunch and to Learn’.
our November edition of "Out to Lunch"with local speaker Marc Blau who will give a riveting talk , Letters to the Homefront, A Love Story Between a Community and Its WWII Soldiers.
The project to publish a book about Homefront Magazine began in October 2015. The co-authors, Marc Blau, Karen Brewer, Chip Turtzo, and Deanna Ruzanski assembled volunteers to read and summarize the 4000+ letters that WWII soldiers sent home to their beloved Homefront Magazine. The letters were then categorized by topic and placed into appropriate chapters. Some of the chapters are The Fairest of the Month, Battlefield Stories, Soldier’s Artwork, Poems & Prayers, Heroes and many more. The book highlights the letters and uses the hand-written words of our slate belt fighting men and women to tell the story. Many of your fathers and grandfathers are mentioned in the book and we are sure that your family will pre-order a copy.
Marc Blau taught Social Studies in the Bangor school system for 30 years before retiring. He is now a board member and officer of the Slate Belt Heritage Museum in Bangor.
