About this event

Join us on Saturday, October 18, 3-6pm, for an opening reception to celebrate Our Language, Our Story, an exhibition by Joyce Xi, Galeria de la Raza, and the Asian Law Caucus that explores what it means to live life in your own language – to have the freedom to express yourself and understand the world around you, to be human. Through firsthand narratives and photos of immigrants across the Bay Area, gathered from hours of interviews and dozens of visits to community centers, neighborhood spots, family celebrations, and organizing meetings, photographer Joyce Xi illuminates urgent and important stories that allow us to reflect more deeply about the world we live in and the people we share it with.

Featuring a series of photographs and stories from over 20 community members, this exhibit is a celebration of Bay Area immigrants and refugees. It serves as a call to action for a world that embraces all our communities, where there are no barriers to expressing ourselves and living life fully.

Our Language, Our Story was created in partnership and features community members from organizations including PODER, Chinese Progressive Association, Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants, Trabajadores Unidos Workers United, Asian Pacific Environmental Network, California Karen Youth Connection, Filipino Community Center, Meadi Wellness, California Rural Legal Assistance, and Asian Health Services.

This event is free to attend and will include a short program and performances. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP by October 11, 2025.
