The Oregon Virtual Distance Challenge. Set then achieve your goal and get great swag during our May 2020 quaRUNtine Challenge!
About this event
While we might not be able to come together in person at this time, nothing can stop us from BEING ACTIVE, HAVING FUN, and GIVING BACK!
We know times are challenging. Being stuck at home can lead to less physical activity. We want to help you change that. This month, our challenge is asking you to set a specific number of miles you want to run or walk, and then work your tail off to hit that number! We want you to set a realistic goal, but also to push yourself just a bit further than what you think you can do.
Join us for our next Oregon Virtual Distance Challenge, from May 1 - 31, 2020. A portion of proceeds will go directly to the #EmergeStronger Community Challenge, part of the Oregon Food Bank.
HOW IT WORKS:
- Register for this event on Eventbrite
- During registration you will set your intention with a monthly mileage goal.
- Join our club on Strava* (it’s Free) to verify your miles
- Win great prizes!
Once you have registered, we'll send you a more detailed email with instructions for participation.
At the end of May, we will look at your totals and send out prizes within two weeks!
BONUS:
Every Saturday in May, we will host a virtual Happy Hour at noon via Zoom. Join us for a laid back time of connecting with each other, hearing from some special guests, great raffle prizes, and sharing fun quaRUNtine stories!
Tag us in a post-challenge run/walk picture, and use the hashtags #orvirtualchallenge, #justalittlemore, and #orbrs2020. This will enter you into our weekly virtual Happy Hour raffle where you can win even more great prizes!
Be sure to enjoy your post run/walk cool downs with a tasty Oregon craft beer!
*Don’t use Strava yet? No problem! Strava integrates with MANY popular run/walk tracking apps. By using Strava as the hub, it helps us seamlessly track everything while puts all of us in one place for the social distancing/sharing aspect of this challenge.

GIVE BACK
We are all about being active, having fun and giving back to our local community. Since our first season in 2016, we have given over $16k to local Oregon nonprofits. This event will add to that tally! A portion of proceeds will go directly to the #EmergeStronger Community Challenge, part of the Oregon Food Bank. "NIKE, Inc. President & CEO John Donahoe and his wife, Eileen Donahoe, pledged $1,000,000 to Oregon Food Bank. With their gift to Oregon Food Bank, John and Eileen are helping support our communities through the COVID-19 crisis. They hope to inspire others to collectively match their giving through Oregon Food Bank’s #EmergeStronger Community Challenge."
We have decided to donate $500 to this fund and want you all to raise an additional $500 for $1000 total from the Oregon Brewery Series!
About The Oregon Food Bank
The Oregon Food Bank and Statewide Network of 21 regional food banks and approximately 1,200 food assistance sites help our neighbors facing food insecurity throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
Food assistance is provided to anyone who needs it. Our Network ensures access without discrimination against any person because of race, color, citizenship, religion, reprisal, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, unfavorable discharge from the military or status as a protected veteran.
In an average month, an estimated 260,000 people are receiving food from a food pantry in the Network.
- The rate of food insecurity (being without access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food) in Oregon is 14.6%.
- About 552,900 Oregonians are food insecure, of those 194,070 are children.
- About 72% of the people who receive food have incomes below the federal poverty level.
- Of households utilizing food pantries, about 80% of them are able to meet their food needs for the month with the help of a pantry.
The Oregon Food Bank Network is prepared to meet the challenges of this moment head-on, but they need our help! Not only will you be rewarded for being active this month while enjoying great Oregon craft beers, you are also contributing to our states' response to COVID-19.
