Orchid pests and diseases- common pests and healthy solutions

Daryl Yerdon will cover the common insect and pest problems encountered by growers in New England. He has grown orchids for over 25 years without the use of hazardous chemicals or insecticides. We will cover insect pests, bacterial and environmental problems common to orchid growers. Daryl will discuss how to safely manage pest or disease problems with an emphasis on preventative care to avoid these situations and keep your plants healthy.

Daryl Yerdon purchased his first orchid in 1996 at the annual orchid show in Nashua, NH. His collection has grown from that first orchid to over 1000 plants. In 2009 Daryl was awarded the Sawyer Family Advanced Grower Trophy recognizing him as an expert grower for the New Hampshire Orchid Society. Daryl frequently displays his orchids at many local orchid society shows, where many of his plants have received a variety of awards from the American Orchid Society. From 2010 until 2021 Daryl was the owner of Kelley’s Korner Orchid Supplies which was sold and relocated to Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1952, the Massachusetts Orchid Society includes members who are just learning how to spell orchid, to those with sophisticated grow rooms in their homes. Some even have fancy, automated greenhouses. The opportunities to learn about and enjoy orchids with new friends are limitless.
